The Hollywood Reporter recently announced the launch of two new 10-episode podcasts, The Red Note and La Nota Roja, from Imperative Entertainment, the production studio behind Clint Eastwood’s The Mule and the Martin Scorsese-Leonardo DiCaprio film Killers of the Flower Moon. The Red Note and in its Spanish-language version, La Nota Roja, will debut on September 22 on all major podcast platforms.
The Red Note podcasts explore into the decades-long tragedy of the Juarez femicides: the murders and disappearances of women along the border in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, stretching back over twenty-five years. Through interviews with investigators who worked to solve the crimes and the families of the victims, the series pulls back the curtain on a deeply interconnected web of corruption, drug violence, and sex trafficking that has fueled these atrocities for a generation.
Hosting both versions of the show is Mexican journalist and human rights activist Lydia Cacho, whose career has been defined by courageous reporting on violence against women and children. Written and directed by Craig Whitney, the podcast was executive produced by Jason Hoch and Cacho alongside lead producer Estefania Bonilla Hernandez, with additional producing credits going to Laura Caulfield, Will Wallace, and Whitney.
For Imperative, The Red Note represents the latest addition to the company’s growing slate of podcasts. The studio’s earlier audio projects have included Boomtown, a collaboration with Texas Monthly, chronicled the largest oil boom in American history; The Syndicate, which traced the true-crime arc of a group of college friends who built a black-market marijuana empire worth millions; and In the Red Clay, about the story of Georgia legend Billy Sunday Birt.
