
Better Archangel Pictures was formed by writer-director Craig Whitney in Austin, Texas in 2008.
In 2009, the company released the short film, Harvest Home, written and directed by Whitney, and starring Diane Hruska and Scott Bate.
The following year, Whitney produced and directed the feature-length concert film Miranda Cosgrove: Live in Dallas at Sony, featuring a live performance by the iCarly star.
In 2011, Better Archangel released Whitney’s second short film as writer-director, The Garden and the Wilderness, starring Larry Grant Harbin, D.J. Economou, and Terri Bennett.
After premiering at the Rome International Film Festival, The Garden and the Wilderness was selected for the Houston Film Commission’s prestigious Texas Filmmakers Showcase as one of the best short films released that year in the state of Texas.

Working with the production companies Imperative Entertainment and Blue Guitar in Mexico City, Whitney wrote, directed, and produced the true crime podcasts The Red Note and La Nota Roja in 2020, which examined the 30 year history of the femicide in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
Hosted by investigative journalist Lydia Cacho, the two podcasts reached #1 on Apple or Spotify’s podcast charts in 13 countries, and the top 40 on Apple True Crime in 56 countries.
La Nota Roja was nominated for Best Spanish Podcast at the iHeart Podcast Awards, while The Red Note was named one of the top 25 true crime podcasts of all time by Forbes.

In addition to his film and podcast work, Whitney also directed the world premiere of Don Corr’s play Stewardess and produced the world premiere of Colleen Ahern’s play Language Games. Craig also directed the Texas premiere of Katie Green’s play Lady Lazarus.
Whitney has also filmed music videos for artists including the Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines, Emblem3, and promotional videos for One Direction’s 1D Day special.
