La Nota Roja at number one on Spotify Mexico's Society and Culture podcast chart

The Spanish-language version of The Red Note podcast, La Nota Roja, has climbed to number one on Spotify’s Society and Culture podcast chart in Mexico, according to data from podcast analytics platform Chartable.

The milestone came shortly after the release of the podcast’s tenth and final episode on November 17 and shortly before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women the following week.

The series spans ten episodes and examines more than 25 years of femicide in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Hosted by renowned investigative journalist Lydia Cacho in both language versions, the podcast traces the history of the killings from the earliest documented cases in 1993 through to recent years, drawing on interviews with victims’ families, journalists, academics, researchers, and former government officials.

The podcast’s examination of the Juárez femicides places the crimes within a broader context of corruption, drug violence, sex trafficking, and unchecked economic globalization along the border. Director Craig Whitney and producer Estefanía Bonilla Hernández had been researching the subject for several years prior to production, a process that informed both the depth of the reporting and the team’s approach to working sensitively with victims’ families.

All ten episodes of both versions of the podcast remain available on major streaming platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
