Original Score for The Red Note Podcast by Michael Ramos & Charanga Cakewalk Now Available

Better Archangel Pictures celebrates the release of the original soundtrack for The Red Note podcast, composed by Michael Ramos with his ensemble Charanga Cakewalk. The score is now available for streaming on major music platforms including Spotify, YouTube, Tidal, and Apple Music.

The Red Note podcast (also available in Spanish as La Nota Roja) is a narrative true-crime series that explores the 30-year history of femicides in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Hosted by investigative journalist Lydia Cacho and produced by a Mexico-based creative team, the series examines thousands of cases of murdered and disappeared women along the U.S.-Mexico border. It presents interviews with investigators, family members of victims, and others involved in documenting and confronting this ongoing crisis.

Michael Ramos, the composer of The Red Note‘s score, is an award-winning musician and producer known for his work with artists such as John Mellencamp, Patty Griffin, BoDeans, The Rembrandts, Paul Simon, and Kris Kristofferson. Ramos won a Latin Grammy Award in 2016 for his work on Lila Downs’ album Bellas y Chocolate.

Charanga Cakewalk, Ramos’ ensemble, is recognized for its eclectic “cumbia lounge” style—a blend of Tejano, flamenco folklorica, merengue, salsa, garage rock, ska, and reggaeton—that informs the soundtrack’s distinctive sound. Prior releases by the group include Loteria De La Cumbia Lounge (2004), Chicano Zen (2006), and El Brown Recluse (2011).

Listeners can access the full The Red Note original score on Apple Music, Spotify, or through their preferred streaming service.
